We are looking for a statistical geneticist to join the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU), Department of Public Health and Primary Care at University of Cambridge. 

The postholder will be developing novel statistical methodologies that enable translational and clinical application of genetic risk models. The exact project will be designed based on your research interest and the translational/clinical need proposed by our clinical collaborators. You will be working on genomic, molecular (transcriptomics, proteomic, and metabolomics), and electronic health record data, empowered by and contributing to multiple resources developed and maintained by the team (e.g. PGS Catalog, Omicspred).  

The post holder will work with Dr Xilin Jiang and Professor Michael Inouye while collaborating with Professor Alkes Price (Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health) and senior scientists at NHS Genomic laboratory hub. You will have the opportunity to establish collaboration with senior scientists around Cambridge and international institutions.  

The preferred candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Statistics, Computer Science, or other related quantitative subject. Selection criteria includes understanding of inferential and quantitative concepts and techniques, computational skills, and experience of analysing large genetic and functional datasets, ideally with electronic health records. You should have an ability to communicate and present results to other quantitative scientists, bioinformaticians, epidemiologists, clinicians and scientists, along with excellent verbal and written communications skills and strong organisational skills. 

This position is full-time.  

Funding is available for 36 months from commencement in post, with the possibility of extension.

*Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date).  If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
