This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer programme (KTP), co-funded by a grant from Innovate UK and H.T. Brigham & Company Limited. It is essential you understand the fundamentals of how a KTP works between a business and the University and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure this position. The successful candidate will be employed by Birmingham City University, working fulltime delivering a 24-month KTP project in partnership with H.T. Brigham & Company Limited.   

H.T. Brigham & Company Limited are experts in manufacturing high quality low to high volume presswork; including white, yellow and medical goods. The company have been in business for over 75 years. H.T. Brigham also help with solving metal pressing problems. The successful candidate recruited for this position will be employed as a Marketing and New Product Innovation Associate (KTP Associate). This role presents an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with leading academics at Birmingham City University to apply knowledge and technical innovation, delivered on site at the company. The Marketing and New Product Innovation Associate (KTP Associate) should have a minimum 2.1 University qualification in a relevant subject area and should be graduated within the last five years.

 LOCATION AND REPORTING

  • This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate position will be based at Station Road, Coleshill, Birmingham, Warwickshire, B46 1JQ
  • The successful candidate will have full access to Birmingham City University’s resources such as offices, labs, and library to complete the KTP project (a workplan has already been written with KPIs and outcome deliverables)
  • The Marketing and New Product Innovation Associate (KTP Associate) will be supervised and mentored by both a lead academic and academic supervisor academics from BCU’s College of Business Digital Transformation & Entrepreneurship within the Faculty of BLSS as well as a company supervisor located at H.T. Brigham Company Limited

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Involvement in implementing and managing culture
  • Identify routes for growth, including development of new products, new sales leads and markets, which align with H.T. Brigham’s strengths. Through the application of market research and predictive modelling
  • To carry out a detailed assessment and evaluation of current markets, strategies and business innovation practices within and outside the organisation.
  • To identify ways of building and maintaining relationships with both new and existing customer
  • Support or introduce a marketing team that will build in house capabilities in developing marketing collateral and creating digital content for marketing communication
  • To develop a digital marketing strategy including use of a management system and release strategy that will be implemented while running marketing campaigns
  • To build an audience through digital communication strategies
  • Participate in industrial events or academic conferences and disseminate project outcomes to the wider community
  • To oversee the project during its duration (reporting, communication and delivering presentations to both employers and employees)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 Essential:

  • A first degree (equivalent to a first class or 2:1 honours) in marketing, business, business analytics or alternatively, if in engineering completed with a Master’s degree in a business discipline
  • A master's degree or PhD in marketing related discipline (awarded, recently submitted, or near completion) or a closely related discipline will be an advantage or equivalent commercial experience
  • Demonstrative extensive knowledge and understanding of creating a marketing strategy
  • Experience of developing/completing a substantial marketing projects in industry
  • Keen interest in the developing enabling strategies to facilitate business growth through cultural change
  • Creative thinking capability and experience in working across a wide range of Social Media platforms to develop and curate consistent and engaging content
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads) and attribution
  • Understanding of a range of market research techniques which will aid business decision making
  • Completion of a substantial business research report, demonstrating quantitative skills, in either university or industry
  • Proficient in analytical and visualisation tools e.g., PowerBI, Tableau
  • Advanced skills in statistical analysis and predictive modelling. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SPSS and NVivo
  • Keen interest in developing marketing strategies to facilitate business growth through aligning organisational change with market opportunities
  • Excellent knowledge of how to analyse opportunities in markets for new products and recommending new products to address market demand
  • Experience in rebranding of companies
  • Effective interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and industrial partners will be essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project and time management skills commensurate within the role of KTP Marketing and New Product Innovation Associate and an ability to work to tight deadlines (with attention to detail) and maintain high standards of work

 Desirable:

  • Involvement in the implementation of a new culture of continuous improvement using tools such as journey mapping and customer experience, and soft systems methodology
  • A willingness to travel to industry events throughout the UK and abroad if required
  • Experience in implementing digital marketing tools such as AI with SEO, content creation and managing social media
  • The Associate must be a proficient communicator and engage fully with all stakeholders, in seminars, workshops and events, to highlight the work of the project
  • Ability to sense and seize new opportunities
  • Practice in training and mentoring employees to embed innovation and marketing capabilities
  • Experience in business modelling and new product development and launch
  • Ability to write business research reports
  • Academic acumen to enable successful reporting through research publications in academic journals and marketing/training materials
  • A clean driving license and a willingness to travel to utility contracts throughout the UK
  • Practical experience of working in metal pressing industry

On a personal note, the Associate should be enthusiastic, motivated, punctual, conscientious, trustworthy and a good team worker.
