Computer Science is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Research Systems Team to support our world-class research and teaching in robotics technology. Based in the Cobot Maker Space (https://cobotmakerspace.org) but also overseeing the Robotics Teaching Lab in the Computer Science building based on the Jubilee campus, this new and exciting post will be a key role in providing effective support to staff and students in the School working in robotics. In addition, this post will be responsible, with colleagues, for leading the planning and delivery of future developments in all areas of robotics in the School.

As a key member of the Research Systems Team, you will be involved in:

  • Working with colleagues on the utilisation of robots for research and teaching
  • Collaborating with researchers to define specific technical requirements for experiments and create solutions to research problems.
  • Building, testing and refining robotics prototypes.
  • Providing specialist technical advice to research proposal development.
  • Laboratory organisation and safety
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Assess activities for risk and put appropriate measures in place to limit risk.  
  • Design and deliver training to researchers and students on the safe use of equipment.
  • Maintenance and calibration of robotics equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of robotics equipment and tools.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical issues to ensure uninterrupted operation of research equipment.
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Collaborate with researchers, faculty, and other technicians to achieve project goals.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress and challenges.
  • Creation and maintenance of documentation relating to equipment, systems and processes.
  • Supporting events both on-campus and off-site with internal and external stakeholders.

You will have:

  • Experience of communicating and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Familiarity with programming and the desire to develop this knowledge with robotics specific languages.
  • A working knowledge of Linux, Windows and OSX.

The post is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
