The opportunity
We are pleased to advertise two exciting new Grade 2 Library Assistant roles within the latest development of UAL Library Services. You will be part of a brand-new team supporting our Foundation and Pre Degree students based at our newly renovated heritage Library Hub in Lime Grove, West London.

As a member of the Library Services team, you will contribute to the development of high quality and student-focused library services which support the academic activities of the University.

You will answer enquiries in person and on-line, via our live chat service, ASK. You will assist users with general directional and initial information enquiries, including the use of the library catalogue and electronic information resources. You will participate in on-site front-line services and administrative duties, including helping people use self-issue systems, IT and printing. You will also be required to do re-shelving and related activities, demonstrating an understanding of manual handling guidelines which will be required when lifting heavy items.

The roles are based at the Lime Grove site and will be working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day. Normal working hours will be between 9.00am to 6.00pm but there may be a requirement to work any time during our 8.30am to 8.30pm core hours. You will be required to work a variety of 9am starts or 6pm closes each week.

There might be limited opportunities to work from home dependent on operational needs, but onsite working will be the main focus for this role.

About you
We are looking for someone with a compassionate and student-centred approach. You should have relevant library or customer service experience, and formal training to post 16 level. You will be a good communicator with excellent written skills and good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Knowledge and experience within a Higher Education institution is desirable but not essential.
