Research Project:
This position is for research within CRADLE, the Centre for Robotic Autonomy in Demanding and Long-lasting Environments (https://cradlerobotics.co.uk). CRADLE is a partnership between Jacobs Solutions [https://www.jacobs.com], the Manchester Centre for Robotics and AI [https://www.robotics.manchester.ac.uk], and the UKRI [https://www.ukri.org].
Purpose of the Job:
CRADLE involves providing project-wide flexible, generic, verifiable architectures supporting practical development and deployment of reliable and trustworthy autonomous robotics. We are looking for a strong researcher able to conduct research around software engineering, with a particular focus on the practical problems of implementing, adapting, and proving modular autonomous robots. The candidate should have a background of excellent research outputs across Software Engineering, ideally focussed on Autonomy or Robotics. The overall research programme aims to develop a body of cross-cutting research across the field of Robotics, and we are therefore seeking candidates who show a willingness and aptitude for collaborating closely with the wider research team which includes Assurance, Robotics and HRI researchers as well as Engineers from Jacobs. The successful candidate will contribute to the wider joint research programme tackling these interrelated challenges and will undertake research in the Autonomy and Verification network [https://autonomy-and-verification.github.io].
