The role

The University of Bristol’s School of Physics seeks an outstanding candidate for a permanent academic appointment within the field of Soft Matter Physics (Experiment). The appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale. The appointee will be expected to establish their own world-class independent research programme in the Quantum and Soft Matter Research Theme in the School of Physics.

What will you be doing?

Soft Matter is integral to the Quantum and Soft Matter and Theoretical Physics research themes in the School of Physics and is complementary to activities across the Faculties of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.  The appointee will have access to a range of university facilities including the Wolfson Imaging Facility, existing labs for Soft Matter research, supercomputing (c. 25k CPU cores, 250 GPUs) as well as access to the recently announced £225M national research facility in AI, Isambard AI, also hosted at the University.

Applicants should have excellent scientific output evidenced by publications in high quality journals and, commensurate with their career stage, have either a track-record of attracting research funding or demonstrate a strong potential to do so in the future. This position will also support teaching in the School of Physics across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The University seeks applicants with a strong commitment to all aspects of the academic mission, not only research and teaching, but also outreach and knowledge transfer activities, and academic leadership and administration.
