Faculty / Directorate

The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM) is home to a range of courses, in line with emergent demand and the nature of these fast-moving, competitive disciplines. Computer Science at DMU is ranked 151-200 worldwide in the Shanghai Ranking, and 201-250 in the THES World University Rankings due to the international nature and high relevance of its research. Alongside the university as a whole, we have huge ambitions for the future in terms of our offering to students and the quality and scale of our research.

Role

The Faculty of CEM is actively seeking to appoint a permanent Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Computer Science. Lecturers are expected to enhance the faculty’s teaching portfolio through successful educational practices and professional experience. Responsibilities include the preparation and delivery of lectures, seminars, and practical workshops; teaching research methodologies; grading; supervising projects; and providing personal tutoring.

Senior Lecturers will encompass all lecturer duties and additionally will be responsible for the creation of innovative teaching materials, the design of assignments, and overseeing research activities. They will ensure the maintenance of high academic standards, quality assurance, and an excellent student experience. Senior Lecturers must apply their academic expertise to develop curricula and prepare assessments, specifically to meet the unique requirements of the transnational educational landscape between Leicester and Dubai. Significant leadership in managing programmes and leading key initiatives are expected. They are required to maintain a strong research presence, evidenced by publications in top-tier journals, conferences, and active participation in securing research funding. Additional duties include crafting innovative educational content, contextualizing assessments to ensure relevance across diverse geographic and cultural contexts, leading the development of new academic programmes, and participating in strategic planning to advance the faculty’s objectives.

Ideal Candidate

Candidates should possess a postgraduate degree, ideally a PhD, in Computer Science, Computing, Computational Sciences, Computer Engineering or related areas. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach a broad range of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels effectively. The ideal candidate will make substantial contributions to our progressive agenda for providing cutting-edge, industry-focused education. Experience in higher education teaching and expertise in Computer Science are required, with candidates from industry backgrounds also highly regarded.
