Active West Lancs Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Edge Hill University - Sport & Physical Activity

Location: Ormskirk

Fixed Term for 18 months

Fulfill your potential within a supportive research active team

About You

You should have a PhD in children’s physical activity and health (or similar), and have experience of conducting high quality physical activity, fitness, and health promotion research involving children, teachers, and parents with particular reference to school settings. You will be passionate about working with children and about physical activity promotion, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience of project management.

Experience of measuring physical activity using accelerometry would be an advantage, and good statistical analysis skills are essential. Experience of using qualitative research methods is desirable but is not essential if the candidate is willing to learn and develop in this area. An enhanced DBS check and your own transport are required to undertake the position.

This post is an opportunity for an emerging researcher to progress their career by working alongside a dynamic team of academics as part of a fast-growing physical activity and health research group.

About the Role

Edge Hill University in partnership with West Lancashire Borough Council is evaluating the Active West Lancs physical activity and healthy lifestyles programme (activewestlancs.org). You will lead the research and evaluation of the children and schools element of the Active West Lancs programme. The project will focus on evaluating the effects of the school-based aspects of the programme by gathering data relating to children’s physical activity, health-related fitness, psychosocial wellbeing, and academic performance. We are also keen to get the views of the participating teachers, children, and parents, as well as evaluate programme fidelity.
