12 Doctorate Research Fellowships

Technische Universität Ilmenau

Funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Foundation, the Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany is establishing the

Ilmenau School of Green Electronics (ISGE)

for research on the next generation of IT systems.  This topic is addressed in a highly interdisciplinary Graduate School which offers positions for:

12 Full-time Doctorate Research Fellowships (EG 13-TV-L)

Starting from July 1st, 2024, the positions are funded for up to four years and are fully paid according to the TV-L E13 scale of the German public sector.

The “Ilmenau School of Green Electronics” explores the foundation of a sustainable information technology. To this end, the research projects are closely interlinked at the interfaces between bio-inspired microelectronics, intelligent materials, devices and technologies as well as energy-efficient computing. The research scope of the projects includes:

  • Reservoir computing based on optical and micro-electromechanical principles
  • Neuromorphic computing, bio-inspired circuits, and neural networks,
  • Low energy data analytics and stream processing, (optical) in-network computing,
  • Efficient AI-based signal processing
  • Greener microtechnologies and materials
  • Computing based on organic components

For the Doctorate Research Fellowships the ISGE offers a creative and vibrant research environment with excellent laboratory facilities within the Centre of Micro- and Nanotechnologies (https://www.tu-ilmenau.de/zmn), a comprehensive scientific supervision and study program as well as participation within a widespread international scientific network. Furthermore, it is planned that the coordinated doctorates are completed within about three years. The fourth year shall be mainly used to develop and promote an academic career track.

Applicants for the Doctorate Research Fellowship positions should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Excellent Diploma or Master degree in an ISGE related field such as Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Micro-and Nanotechnology, Mechanical or Optical Engineering
  • Independent, critical, and responsible way of thinking and working
  • Ability to communicate within an interdisciplinary team and team spirit
  • High level of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is advantageous but not a requirement)
  • Commitment and dedication to complete the doctoral program within three years.

The Technische Universität Ilmenau is a campus university in a scenic setting right in the heart of Germany. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an Assessment Center on May 28th -May 29th 2024 at TU Ilmenau introducing themselves and their enthusiasm for research in the Ilmenau School of Green Engineering in a short presentation.
