Soft Skills Trainer for Life Scientists

EMBO Solutions is a not-for-profit enterprise dedicated to the advancement of life sciences and the support of scientists through the training of leadership and other soft and scientific skills. We are wholly owned by EMBO, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond.

Our diverse international training team of 6 members hails from various countries and personal backgrounds, collaborating closely to further our mission. EMBO Solutions is located on the international EMBL life sciences research campus in Heidelberg, Germany.

Your role

You will join the training team as a trainer for the EMBO Laboratory Leadership course and other courses in our portfolio, which will represent approximately half of your work. You will also take on client onboarding duties, course development, and other project work, as well as some administration work relating to course delivery. You will report to the Head of Training and will be responsible for delivering an average of two 3- or 4-day workshops per month, both of which may be outside of Germany.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Learn to deliver the EMBO Laboratory Leadership workshop and other workshops in our portfolio.
  • Deliver an average of two courses per month, of three or four days in length, often outside of Germany and requiring international travel, often out of normal working hours or at weekends. All courses are delivered in English.
  • Onboard new institutes and universities who would like to book our training, and then coordinate with the institute, the trainers, and our administrators to complete the sales and onboarding process.

Who you are

You are someone who is passionate about training and supporting people, and you may come from a variety of cultural and specialist backgrounds.

You will have:

  • Experience of training soft skills in professional or non-professional settings, ideally with an audience of life science researchers
  • A successful track record of working as part of a team
  • An interest in understanding and supporting people
  • A collaborative attitude with a ‘learner mindset’
  • A Masters degree or PhD, ideally in a STEM subject, though we anticipate a range of subject specialties may be appropriate to this role
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills

Contract duration

EMBO Solutions is offering a full-time position based on the Heidelberg campus. The contract has a 6-month probation period and then no set term limit.

Starting salary will be in the range of 50,000 to 65,000 Euros, depending on experience.
