The Faculty’s heritage is of research that is internationally recognised, with high impact and firmly rooted in the importance of linking fundamental scientific research to engineering applications, which saw Surrey rank 15th for engineering research power. Guided by this belief, academics continue to grow on the Faculty’s heritage in research that scales from Aerospace Engineering, interplanetary exploration, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and applied mathematics. The Faculty utilises state-of-the-art facilities such as the 5G/6G centre, which is home to the internationally renowned Institute of Communication Systems, the national Ion Beam Centre, the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing unique audio-visual AI studio infrastructure, and a dedicated chemical plant and the Ground Station within our Surrey Space Centre.
Partnerships are central to the Faculty’s success. Close collaboration with large and small industry partners, policymakers and community organisations strengthen research impact and supports innovation across the Faculty and the real-world sectors it interacts with. These relationships are complemented by strong links to the established Pan University Institutes in AI, Sustainability, and Space that harness interdisciplinary power to provide creative, collaborative and disruptive solutions that enable far reaching insights and innovations.
