Faculty of Business and Law

De Montfort University (DMU) is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Head of School, Accounting, Finance and Economics within the Faculty of Business and Law. Role

The Head of School will set the strategic direction for Accounting, Finance and Economics, translating faculty and university ambitions into a distinctive academic offer, a strong research and knowledge exchange profile, and excellent outcomes for students. The role requires visible leadership across the school, ensuring that academic plans are coherent, financially sustainable and aligned to the needs of students, employers and the wider economy.

As a member of the Faculty Leadership Team, you will take responsibility for school performance, including curriculum development, workforce planning, resource allocation, budget management, student number planning, income generation and risk management.

A key priority will be to build the school's profile and influence. This will include shaping an attractive and future-facing portfolio, leading recruitment and outreach activity, developing partnerships with businesses, professional bodies and external organisations, and deepening engagement with local, regional and international communities. You will also promote a school culture that is inclusive, ambitious and collaborative, with clear expectations and support for high performance. 

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an accomplished academic leader in a discipline relevant to Accounting, Finance or Economics, with a PhD or equivalent standing as part of their academic profile. You will have the experience and confidence to lead in a complex academic environment, combining sound judgement with the ability to manage people, resources and priorities effectively.

You will be able to evidence achievement across learning and teaching, and research and innovation, together with experience of leading curriculum development and growing student recruitment. The role will suit someone who understands the opportunities and pressures facing business-facing disciplines, can build productive relationships with employers and professional networks, and can turn external engagement into tangible benefits for students, colleagues and the school.

Above all, you will be an inclusive and motivational leader who communicates with clarity, listens well and brings people with you. You will build confidence, accountability and collaboration across the school.

The salary for this post is £82,109 - £86,266 Candidates meeting our Professorial criteria, will be assessed against the appropriate banding.
