Culture, entertainment & recreation
Shenzhen is a modern and beautiful garden city just across the border from Hong Kong that has grown from a small fishing village to a thriving metropolis in the space of just 34 years. The transformation has been remarkable. As China’s first special economic zone, Shenzhen has also led the way with China’s reforms and helped to open up China to the rest of the world.

As you walk around this innovative and pioneering city, you will see some of the most modern buildings in the world. A fashion capital and shopper’s paradise with lots of restaurants and bars, including a British pub, Shenzhen offers urban chic and something for everyone. There are 13 golf courses, theme parks, art galleries, botanical gardens, museums, a safari park and everything you would expect from a major city. You can also take part in many coastal activities in the area, join the yacht and marine clubs or relax on one of the many beaches at Moon Bay. The city is full of surprises. It is at the forefront of volunteering with over 500,000 volunteers. It is also the youngest city to hold the Universiade World Student Games.

The Shenzhen region has a rich culture that stretches back over 5,000 years and areas of natural beauty, including the Mangrove Nature Reserve, Lotus Hill Park and Dapeng Peninsula. Home to an international airport, metro and China's largest land passenger and cargo port, Shenzhen is a cosmopolitan city and an attractive place to live and work.
