KTP Associate - Development of Technologies for the Functional Enhancement of Soft Fruit

The James Hutton Institute - Cell & Molecular Sciences

Fixed Term 21 Month Contract

The work undertaken by The James Hutton Group is right at the top of the global agenda tackling problems such as the impact of climate change and threats to food and water security.

Cell and Molecular Sciences (CMS) is based at the Dundee site and comprises more than 100 plant scientists with research specialisms in cell and molecular biology, genomics, genetics, pathology and physiology.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a KTP associate to work with The James Hutton Institute and PJ Stirling Ltd to develop novel soft fruit production techniques to enhance fruit quality and functionality. This represents an opportunity to drive a project with direct commercial relevance to the industrial partner and their customers, the major UK multiple retailers. The associate will develop and test growing protocols and will use cutting-edge analytical and in vitro technologies to monitor the impact of novel production practices on crop quality and functionality.

We seek a commercially aware graduate with an upper second class honours degree or better in a biological, chemical or agricultural science. You should be able to demonstrate previous laboratory experience and be numerate with the capacity to analyse data using office software. You will be required to report results to PJS as well as to their customers hence previous experience in the development and delivery of written reports and presentations is required.  Ideally you will have previous experience in a commercial environment.

This post will be based in Dundee; there will be a requirement for occasional travel to Arbroath.

You must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this position.
