The University of Surrey was recently named the Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2016 and is a top ten UK University set in a beautiful campus half an hour’s journey from the centre of London. The School of Psychology is ranked 8th out of 114 in the 2018 Guardian league table and is undergoing significant expansion over the next few years.

We seek to appoint an emerging leader of research in Environmental Psychology who will join a School and Faculty with research ambition and a drive to have real impact in the world. We welcome applications from all areas of Environmental Psychology research but are particularly interested to hear from people with experience in research that focuses on environmental cognition, urban living or sustainability including areas such as wayfinding, environmental stress and pro-environmental behaviour. Strong applicants with related expertise will also be considered.

You will be joining a vibrant School with existing strengths in Cognition and Brain Science, Developmental and Education Science, Health and Wellbeing, Social and Environmental Psychology, and Food and Consumer Behaviour. This appointment is part of the School strategy to support cross-discipline research aimed at releasing the life-long potential of the human brain; addressing inequalities in life-course health and wellbeing; embracing changing societies, environments and communities; intervening to support vital, healthy and creative lives; creating innovative assessment analysis and interventions; and educating the professionals of the future.

The School is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and we have access to high quality facilities. We have on-site EEG, tDCS and TMS laboratories, a driving simulator, psychophysiological and eye-tracking facilities and dedicated off-site access to fMRI. In addition, we have a range of laboratories for behavioural research including observation facilities and the Surrey BabyLab. The Faculty also houses the Surrey Sleep Research Centre with its state-of-the-art sleep laboratories. The School is about to receive significant further investment in lab facilities including simulation/virtual reality facilities, and mobile scanning technologies, and the University has recently built our new Innovation for Health learning Laboratory with a state of the art gait laboratory. The University also houses the internationally acclaimed Centre for Environment and Sustainability.

We are looking for a highly motivated person with a creative and collegiate approach to psychology, and we welcome applicants working with a range of methods who are committed to both research and teaching. All post-holders will hold a doctorate (or near to completion) in psychology or equivalent and will contribute directly to research, teaching and learning and to administration in the School. In addition to salary you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement, excellent development opportunities, and access to childcare assistance.
