An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and technically skilled research assistant in the field of secure quantum communications. We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the optical wireless communications research group at the Department of Engineering Science in central Oxford. The post is funded by the EPSRC and Innovate UK. The post is available immediately and is until the end of November 2019 (with the possibility of extension).
The project aims to develop quantum secure free-space links for financial transactions, and is a collaboration between Cognizant, Bristol University and Oxford. Our role is to deliver the optical links required between the terminals in order to achieve this. You will play a key role in this cutting-edge work, and be responsible for research into potential architectures and design and implementation of the system. Skills in photonic systems research and experimentation are required, preferably in an area relevant to free-space optical communications, as well as the drive and enthusiasm to create working demonstrators with world-leading performance.
You should possess a PhD/DPhil or be near completion (with the possibility to underfill at Grade 6: £28,098 - £33,518 p.a., if candidate holds a relevant degree/Masters and is working on PhD/DPhil). You will have skills in the simulation and modelling of physical processes, preferably in a field relevant to optics or optoelectronics.
