The appointment will be on UCL Grade . The salary range will be Grade 7 from £39,353 - £42,701 and Grade 8 from £43,884 - £51,769 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The UCL Department of Mathematics invites applications from candidates for a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics. There are two positions available. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vigorous, high-level research programme in applied mathematics, including publishing in leading journals, and be active in seeking to obtain external income to support their research. They will contribute to the teaching of courses and supervision of projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society. These new posts are part of an expansion of the department; posts in pure mathematics are also being advertised.
The post is available from 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful candidate will have an established or developing track record of independent research excellence in applied mathematics of international standing, with a record of presenting mathematics research at national and international conferences, meetings, or workshops. They are expected to have a PhD or equivalent qualification in applied mathematics, and a clear vision for the potential impact of their research would be desired. In addition, experience of running research projects, and experience of teaching mathematics at university level is required, including programme and course development. An established record of excellent teaching, and the successful supervision and mentoring of research staff, graduate students, student projects or dissertations would also be desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication is required, as well as good presentation skill.
Exceptional candidates would also be expected to have a record of attracting external funding to support research activity, and an established track record of international research excellence in applied mathematics.
