We are currently seeking a full time Sports Science and Nutrition Laboratory Technician to join the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Gipsy Lane Campus in Headington The post holder will maintain Sports Science and Nutrition laboratories in the Department of Sport, Health Sciences & Social Work.

This is a multidisciplinary department with an established international research and teaching reputation. This post would suit someone who has a keen interest in sport, exercise and nutrition.

You will be preparing and maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment to enable project work, research activities and practical work to run efficiently and smoothly. This will include helping academic staff run practical sessions during Open Days and Applicant Days.

You will be assisting academic staff in the development and testing of new and revised practical classes for undergraduates and postgraduates.

In addition you will support students by demonstrating techniques and the safe operation of equipment ensuring that sound experimental practices are followed, particularly where humans are participants of practical activities. This will include assisting with blood sampling procedures.

There may be a fantastic opportunity for you to participate on the Tour De Mont Blanc field Course in the French Alps, where you will investigate the changes in energy balance and physical fitness with a group of undergraduates.

You should be qualified to at least Degree level or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline you will demonstrate an awareness of Health and Safety regulations within laboratory environment. A high level of organisational and communication skills are essential for the role. The successful candidate will also be someone who can work flexibly within a dynamic environment, and be able to adapt quickly to unexpected situations. Therefore, creative problem solving capacity is desirable
