The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University is seeking to make a full-time teaching appointment of Assistant/Associate Professor (Teaching and Scholarship) in Mathematics.
The School wishes to expand the use of digital technology for assessment and learning. We therefore seek to appoint a candidate with experience in developing and implementing digital materials for e-learning and e-assessment in mathematical sciences. The successful candidate will coordinate the use of technology within our current course portfolio, take a lead role in determining how it will shape future teaching methods in mathematical subjects and help define the mathematical sciences contribution to ambitious plans to assess the educational value of technology and embed its use in teaching at the University level. The candidate should have a PhD in the mathematical sciences and relevant experience to be able to engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Develop and coordinate the use of digital technology, e-learning and e-assessment in courses taught by the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences in order to enhance learning and provide efficiencies in teaching and assessment. The courses will include core mathematical science courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as mathematics service courses delivered to scientists and engineers across the three campuses and associated learning partners of the wider university.
Develop and deliver innovative teaching in mathematics on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in courses offered by the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences.
Produce innovative e-learning resources that may be used in a wide range of flexible learning formats such as ‘maths cafe’ style settings.
Initially contribute to and ultimately lead a wider team developing and delivering the mathematical sciences e-learning strategy in line with the ambitious teaching strategy of Heriot-Watt University.
