Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry

Victoria University of Wellington - School of Chemical and Physical Sciences

  • Inorganic Chemistry (Lecturer)
  • Physical Chemistry (Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor)
  • Inorganic/Physical Chemistry (Professor)

The School of Chemical and Physical Sciences is looking to appoint THREE full-time, permanent positions in inorganic and physical chemistry, at the levels described above. Applications are welcome from individuals who have specialist knowledge and experience in any recognized branch of inorganic or physical chemistry including (but not restricted to) computational chemistry, electron microscopy, synthetic (coordination/organometallic) chemistry, spectroscopy, materials/nanoscience and bioinorganic chemistry.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Chemistry (or a related subject). Strong candidates will have a defined research agenda, with an established publication record in leading, internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals. They will actively participate in the School's research, teaching and service programmes. They will contribute to supervision of postgraduate students and will develop a strong independent research programme. They will demonstrate a credible strategy for attracting sustained external funding in the New Zealand environment.

The School comprises Chemistry and Physics, facilitating activity at the interface between the two subject areas. Particular strengths in chemistry include ultrafast spectroscopy, synthetic inorganic chemistry and catalysis, synthesis of nanoscale materials, development of advanced materials including those for energy conversion and sustainability. It also has strengths in the application of carbohydrates as immunotherapy drugs and the synthesis and isolation of bioactive natural products. The School has excellent research capabilities, including a suite of electron microscopes (SEM and TEM), state-of-the-art multinuclear NMR spectrometers (new 2018), single crystal X-ray diffractometer, an ultrafast laser spectroscopy lab and a cleanroom facility.

The School hosts the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, which involves an active collaboration between several universities and crown research institutes across New Zealand. The School also contributes strongly to the University strategy for innovation and commercialization of research.

Applicants should include a cover letter (briefly outlining research interests and teaching philosophy), a current CV and publication list.
