University of Cambridge

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £55 to £78 per hour
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 22nd March 2019
Closes: 21st May 2019

The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), based at Madingley Hall near Cambridge, offers a vibrant and diverse array of courses for adult students studying for personal enrichment or professional development.

We are currently looking to engage teaching specialists in the field of Business Management to design suitable ‘current themes’ course components which would form elements of a new award-bearing FHEQ level 6, Advanced Diploma in Research Theory and Practice in English (Business Management or Engineering) course, primarily for international students. These specialists will design subject specific modules within Business Management to fit the broader curriculum for the new course.

Successful candidates will be PhD qualified professionals in Business Management with experience of curriculum development and undergraduate teaching in established UK university settings. They will have a comprehensive understanding of instructional design and assessment within the QAA framework. Preferably, they will have a postgraduate teaching qualification and experience of working with international students.

The successful candidates will work collaboratively with the Course Director, other ICE academics and the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School to design, teach and assess the respective components of the course.

Most of the teaching plan development can be undertaken away from Cambridge although a physical presence in Cambridge will be required for team meetings and teaching sessions. The teaching sessions will be delivered over the academic year 2019-2020 (commencing in September 2019).

Teaching sessions are in 3-hour workshop and 2-hour seminar blocks. Panel tutors may be contracted to teach multiple sessions, by arrangement. This will include constructing a teaching plan based on the curriculum set by the Course Director, delivering the module and providing additional student support. In addition, teaching specialists will mark students’ assignments. There may be additional opportunities for appropriate applicants to supervise students’ research projects and for those with specialist knowledge and experience with SPSS and/or NVivo computer software, to conduct workshops. Payment will be made at ICE’s competitive Panel Tutor hourly rate which currently stands at either £55 or £78 per hour for non-award and award-bearing teaching respectively. Any development costs will by negotiation and reasonable and pre-agreed travel costs will be reimbursed.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Nigel Kettley:
