Mathematics and Physics are core subjects lying at the heart of human progress that underpins education and research across our School. We are a long established joint School that brings Mathematics and Physics together and there is considerable cross fertilisation with staff involved in physics and mathematics. We now seek to build on our strength!

The School of Mathematics and Physics brings together over 60 academic staff members, including 14 professors and over 50 researchers. The School of Mathematics and Physics comprises two teaching divisions, each with a head of teaching; and six Research Centres. There is a considerable crossover between these areas and the ethos of the School is one of excellence in research informing excellence in teaching.

The University has recently made a substantial commitment to invest in the development of the data analytics discipline, as such we are seeking key academics from Lecturer to Reader within this discipline. 

As part of this investment you would play a key role in the development of our core curriculum in Data Analytics and Statistics to ensure we are developing career ready graduates. 

You will conduct innovative research as part of a pioneering team of researchers to develop an ambitious research profile in Data Analytics and play a role in the future development of the Mathematical Sciences Research Centre providing crucial input in shaping the capability in Data Analytics in the University.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Hold or be about to obtain a PhD in, Statistics or Data Analytics or closely related discipline
  • Evidence of sustained high quality lecturing at undergraduate or postgraduate commensurate with career stage, including project supervision, assessment and feedback experience, in one or more of the following curriculum areas:
    -  Data analytics,
    -  Statistics
  • Experience using Data Analytics and Statistical packages and programming languages such as R, or Python
  • Record of publication of internationally excellent research outputs in Data Analytics (commensurate with career stage)
  • Evidence of conference presentations of research at International conferences
  • Strong track record of earning research income as Principal Investigator (Senior Lecturer/Reader), or evidence of potential to secure research income (Lecturer)
  • Evidence of independent contribution in research projects and outputs and potential to establish an independent research program (Lecturer)
  • Ability to form and manage a sizeable research group, including a track record of post-graduate student and post-doctoral staff supervision (Senior Lecturer/Reader)
  • An internationally excellent research standing and ability to lead distinctive research initiatives (Reader)
  • A strong track record of leadership, demonstrated as evidence of major initiatives that significantly improved education, research or administrative processes

Salary scale: Lecturer £36,261 - £50,132 per annum (potential to progress to £53,175 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)

Reader £51,630 - £59,828 per annum (potential to progress to £65,361 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
