We are looking to fill a post for Postdoctoral Research Associate in ancestral recombination graph (ARG) inference and analysis. The aim is to advance state-of-the-art genealogy-based statistical inference beyond human data and across many species, as part of a project focusing on predictive plant breeding. You will collaborate with an international team across the Universities of Edinburgh, Oxford, and Michigan, and also link to other worldwide members of the tskit community.
You will hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil in a quantitative subject (e.g. statistics, mathematics, computer science, statistical or population genetics, or a related discipline), and a strong motivation to work on problems in genetics and you will also have relevant coding experience with producing high-quality scientific software.
This post is fixed-term for 3 years ending no later than 30 June 2029.
We proudly hold a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award and a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our commitment to openness, inclusivity and transparency, we would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type at Oxford. Applicants will be selected for interview purely based on their ability to satisfy the selection criteria as outlined in full in the job description. You will be required to upload a statement setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae, and the contact details of two referees as part of your online application. Please note that applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are sent to hr@stats.ox.ac.uk directly by the closing date.
Please direct informal enquiries about the post to Prof Anastasia Ignatieva (anastasia.ignatieva@stats.ox.ac.uk) or Dr Yan Wong (yan.wong@bdi.ox.ac.uk), quoting vacancy reference 185149
Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on 7 April 2026 can be considered. Interviews are anticipated to be held on 16 April 2026.
