The Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology would like to appoint a Lecturer in Sociology, Social Policy and/or Criminology. The successful candidate will join our existing team in Singapore, to teach on Singapore’s first and only criminology degree. This BA (Hons) in Criminology and Security was established in 2013, and is a highly popular programme of study. This unique opportunity will provide early career academics or established scholars the chance to shape the future of criminology in South East Asia at the same time as enriching their own research and teaching portfolio. Although based in Singapore, these appointments will be well integrated into the home department in the UK, with regular contact, support and training from colleagues based in Liverpool. The department was established in 1905 and has a long history of engaging in critical scholarship aimed at contributing to progressive interventions in society.

You will ideally have (or be about to obtain) a PhD, with an excellent record of published research, and an international profile. Industry experience will also be taken into consideration where relevant. You will be able to offer exemplary teaching in sociological or criminological topics relevant to the degree programme. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Critical Criminology
  • Sociology of Deviance
  • Social Policy
  • Youth Crime
  • Risk Society
  • Singapore Society and/or South East Asia

The post is available from 1 August 2019 until 31 July 2020.
