About the Role

We are seeking an experienced qualitative Research Assistant to join our team to investigate the patient experience of children and families affected by long-term neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and childhood-onset movement disorders including Cerebral Palsy. The postholder will work with our team to shape the research questions, develop recruitment strategies, conduct qualitative research with children and families, generate data, analyse findings and deliver public engagement. The focus will be on improving patient experiences, identifying health communication needs, and contributing to developing engagement and involvement projects for this audience.

About You

This post is suited to an individual with a strong background in anthropology, sociology, psychology, or arts therapy, with an interest in creative methods, child health, and knowledge production. Proven qualitative/mixed methods research skills are required. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a real impact on the health and wellbeing outcomes of people affected by long-term chronic conditions.

About the School

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health and preventive medicine.  The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements. The Centre for Preventive Neurology brings together an expert team to carry out revolutionary new research into Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions. Their focus is on academic discipline, research, the translation of research into health strategies and their practical implementation – all dedicated to the reduction of disease and disability.

The post is a full-time, fixed term contract until 31st October 2025. Starting salary will be on QMUL Grade 4/25 to 4/26 at £36,572 - £37,182 (depending on experience) per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
