The project:

The School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol is currently recruiting for one full-time PhD studentship, with a start date of 23rd September 2019. The studentship is funded by the NIHR School for Social Care Research (NIHR SSCR).

The doctoral student will be required to conduct research relevant to adult social care practice in England and in line with the NIHR SSCR’s aims and objectives.

The successful applicant will join the School for Policy Studies social policy/social work/disability studies PhD programme and work closely with other colleagues in the School for Policy Studies. Areas of adult social care research expertise and interest in the School include (but are not limited to) social care’s associations with: disability, ageing, personalisation, integration, housing, equality and diversity, social work practice.

As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to submit a research proposal (1,500 words). Please explain, in light of the topic focus on adult social care in England, the research proposed during the studentship.

Candidate requirements: 

Applicants require an Upper Second-Class Honours degree and a pass at MSc/MA level (or equivalent). Please view the PhD Social Policy/Social Work/Disability Studies prospectus page for full entry requirements (including the English Language profile as applicable).

A conditional offer for a place on the PhD programme will be subject to obtaining such marks.

Funding: The 3-year award will cover full-time UK/EU University of Bristol tuition fees[1] and an annual stipend of £15,500| from 1 October 2019.

Additional support (for travel, conference attendance, general research expenses) will be available through the NIHR SSCR programme as appropriate.
