About Us

The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC) is a partner organisation within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is part of NERC and is the UK's Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere. There is the plan for CEH to move outside the public sector to become a not for profit research organisation with charitable status. We will continue to be funded as now by a mixture of NERC and competitively won income.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Research Contracts Advisor to join our Research Contracts Management Team. You will negotiate, draft and finalise research contracts and other agreements to support our delivery of world class research in environmental sciences.

You will advise on contractual issues, including intellectual property rights, to both internal staff and external stakeholders alongside managing the contracts process for and on behalf of CEH staff.

You will ensure that CEH’s project contracts enable future use of project results both for future scientific research and where appropriate for commercial exploitation.

You will have specific responsibilities in relation to managing contract novation activities and identify, communicate and mitigate contractual risks.

About you

You must have a good degree in an appropriate subject, plus legal skills and knowledge.

You will have proven ability at drafting and negotiating project contracts, including consortia and sub-contracts, Framework Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding and Material Transfer Agreements.

You will need good knowledge of intellectual property issues and ability to provide clear advice on copyright and other areas of IPR.

You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to promote and adhere to CEH values of Excellence, Integrity and Team work.
