Land, Environment, Economics & Policy Institute (Economics department)

The Land, Environment, Economics and Policy Institute (LEEP) aims to develop knowledge and understanding to inform governments, businesses and communities about how natural capital and the environment are managed and used; how policy should be better designed, appraised and evaluated; and consequent impact upon the environment, the economy and people. The Institute builds upon an established and internationally acclaimed track record of research excellence which has attracted millions of pounds of funding. Together with its international research partners, LEEP brings together research leaders and experts from the diversity of economic and natural sciences needed to provide an integrated understanding of the ways in which these complex systems interact.

This extraordinary breadth and depth of perspectives on the relationship between the environment, the economy and people, gives LEEP a unique perspective on major research challenges. LEEP specialises in cutting edge research across a variety of fields including:

Integrated modelling of natural, economic and social systems;

Economic Valuation of environment related public and private good;

The economics of natural capital and ecosystem services;

The incorporation of the natural environment within decision making;

Identifying the best uses of and investments in scarce natural resources;

Bringing the complexities of real world locations into analyses, conservation and society;

Impacts of climate change on environments and land use;

People and pollution;

Agricultural and environmental economics and wellbeing.

LEEP places great emphasis upon its engagement with knowledge users in government and the business sector, delivering high impact in translating research into policy and investment action.

The Institute is developing a teaching programme designed to deliver the interdisciplinary researchers and decision makers of tomorrow. This programme is intended to equip students with the range of highly marketable skills required to ensure excellent employability into the future.

Take the LEEP - Join us! We are looking to expand our LEEP institute and want to hire world class Academics to help drive and shape the future of the LEEP Institute as well as the Economics department. We are recruiting for Senior Lecturers, Associate Professors and Full Professors.
