We are seeking to appoint a Senior or Principal Research Fellow to the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group at UCL as part of a 5-year programme grant funded by Cancer Research UK with 2 years left to run, which aims to 1) advance the scientific foundation, and further develop, potentially wide-reach digital technologies for smoking cessation and 2) provide insights into population-wide influences on smoking and smoking cessation.
The appointed person will be expected to provide academic leadership on these themes, collecting and analysing data, and the writing of relevant research grants and papers. They will be expected to develop a sound understanding of behaviour change theory and methods, issues of replicability in science, and state-of-the-art approaches to the evaluation and modelling of individual-level treatments and population-level trends and policies. They will be also expected foster and develop research collaborations with external partners.
This post is available from 1st April 2020 until 31st March 2022 in the first instance.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Behavioural Science or related area; track record in publishing influential smoking cessation and alcohol research, translating knowledge and impacting external national and international agencies; demonstrable commitment to Open Science; and experience of peer-reviewing for scientific journals or grant awarding bodies of relevance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced quantitative or qualitative skills, research integrity, motivation to collaborate, and commitment to developing more junior staff are essential.
Appointment at grade 9 requires a track record of obtaining competitive funding, experience of higher education teaching and having input across all aspects of research grant process, editorial roles at leading journals and contribution to behavioural science theory.
