The Facility is looking to appoint a highly talented postdoctoral scientist who will be jointly responsible for team leadership and providing highly specialist technical expertise. The post holder will be expertly skilled in protein X-ray crystallography and protein biochemistry/biophysics with an established or emerging national reputation. The primary function of the postholder will be to ensure support the requirements of world leading researchers. In addition, the postholder will make a significant contribution to strategic development of the facility building on the existing capabilities of the facility by focusing on data analysis. 

**The Protein Characterisation Facility:**

The Facility was established in 2001 as a central resource providing access to a wide range of biophysical instrumentation and expertise (X-ray crystallography, NMR, Analytical ultracentrifugation, Microscale Thermophoresis, Circular Dichroism, Fluorescence, UV-VIS, FTIR, and Isothermal Calorimetry). The main remit of the Facility is to support collaborative research and development within the Colleges of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences and Science and Engineering. In addition, the facility provides training and analytical skills development to students and post-doctoral researchers. Over 80 publications have resulted from multidisciplinary research projects carried out at the facility since it was established. These projects have included collaborations with researchers from academic and Industrial organisations outwit Glasgow.

The Facility is currently housed in the Joseph Black Building with X-RAY crystallography facilities in the Glasgow Biomedical Research Building.

An executive team comprising Head of Institute, Structural Biologists, and one senior technician oversee the management of the facility and resources.


The Research Institute Molecular Cell and Systems Biology is housed in three main sites in the Gilmorehill campus (Davidson Building, Bower Building and Joseph Black). The Institute has 111 Academic staff and 31 professional support staff.

Salary will be on the Technical & Specialist Grade, level 8, £44,045 - £51,034 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
