The government of Ningbo and MIT jointly established the Ningbo China Institute for Supply Chain Innovation, an exclusive education and research center in China focus on logistics and supply chain management in 2016. The mission of NISCI is to become an international center of excellence for research and education in logistics and supply chain management. Also, NISCI serves an important role in supporting Ningbo in its development of "World Class Port City". 

Under the guidance of MIT Transportation and Logistics Center, NISCI is a non-profit independent educational and research institution and is a member of the MIT Global Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence (SCALE) network. Currently, the network has five centers in China, Colombia, Spain, Luxembourg and Malaysia outside the United States. In addition, there are 14 graduate programs and executive training programs in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia, 90 supply chain and logistics professional teachers and research partners, 150 partner companies and organizations, and more than 1,000 alumni around the world. 

Ningbo government offers a housing allowance starting from CNY 350,000 over 3 years to incoming talents with PhD degrees (one-off payment after the purchase of real estate). 

The postdoctoral talent can apply for living allowances, and those who work in Ningbo after finishing the 2-year postdoctoral appointment can apply for additional allowances up to CNY 500,000. 

The Beilun District offers settle-in subsidies and a price discount of real estate purchase designed for qualified talents. 


Research-track Assistant Professor or Postdoctoral Fellow in Transportation and Logistics 



  • A PhD in transportation, logistics, management sciences, operations research, business analytics, engineering, or a related discipline.  
  • In-depth knowledge and proven skills of academic and applied research in transportation, logistics, or related topics. 
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at master’s level in statistics, operations research, data analytics, or transportation/logistics. 
  • For consideration at the Research-track Assistant Professor level, candidates must have published in international journals and participated in the acquisition of external funding. 


  • Familiarity with analytical methods (e.g., develop algorithms & heuristics and use software for optimization/simulation) 
  • Familiarity with empirical methods (e.g., statistics/econometrics/machine learning) 
  • Teaching experience 
  • Experience with industry problems

Main Duty and Responsibilities: 

  • Conducting guided and independent research on transportation and logistics in the TDH lab (incl. collaboration with researchers in MIT Global SCALE Network) 
  • Publish in leading international journals 
  • Writing research proposals 
  • Meeting with project sponsors 
  • Support outreach activities  
  • Teaching short courses 
  • Any other (incl. administrative) duties that may reasonably be assigned by the supervising faculty member.
