Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century.
To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.
The UK DRI Headquarters team is based at UCL yet works across all six of the UK DRI host institutions. Collectively the HQ team is responsible for making the distributed UK DRI community function as a single institute, with a shared culture of intensely collaborative research.
We are now looking for a HR Manager to lead on the attraction and recruitment of candidates to our rapidly expanding team, and to manage the successful onboarding, induction and development of colleagues in role. This is a newly established post in the HQ team with a strong focus on the recruitment of niche senior roles, so there is lots of opportunity to creatively review how the UK DRI HQ approaches attraction, selection and induction activities and introduce innovative ways of working. As the team becomes fully established focus will move to managing the employee lifecycle, working closely with managers and colleagues and dealing with employee experience, engagement and employee relations.
As well as managing the HR function for the HQ team you will work closely with the UK DRI Head of HR to support and advise colleagues within our research centres, particularly Centre Managers and Centre Directors, and help to deliver strategic HR initiatives across the UK DRI.
The post is funded for five years in the first instance.
You’ll be a creative and proactive HR professional, committed to adding value to the UK DRI through the provision of an innovative and supportive HR function. You’ll be confident advising colleagues, managers and senior leadership on a range of staffing issues including HR policies and processes, employee relations, and the changing legislative landscape affecting employment.
You’ll have experience of providing high-level advice on recruitment, including attraction and selection methodologies, and leading on the seamless delivery of recruitment campaigns from planning to offer stage. You’ll understand the structure and purpose of the UK DRI and be a passionate advocate for its work, ensuring the mission and vision is communicated effectively - particularly during recruitment and onboarding.
You’ll be adept at building strong collaborative working relationships with colleagues, able to develop connections across a geographically dispersed network, and be comfortable simplifying and communicating complex staffing policy or legislation for non-specialist audiences.
