St Hilda’s College Oxford intends to elect a full-time Stipendiary Joanna Randall-MacIver Junior Research Fellow for a period of two years from 1 October 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The person appointed will be expected to undertake advanced research in Anglophone, Francophone, or Germanophone literature of any period. The Fellowship is open to those who will have completed a PhD/DPhil at the time of taking up the post.     

Applicants may be working on Anglophone, Francophone, or Germanophone literature of any period, although we especially welcome applications from those whose research interests complement those of the following Fellows: Dr Margaret Kean, Dr Georgina Paul, Professor Helen Swift, or Professor Daniel Wakelin. The primary duty of the post is to carry out research; the JRF will receive academic mentoring by a College Fellow, and may additionally receive support within the relevant University department 

Junior Research Fellows play an important part in the intellectual and social life of the College and such Fellowships are designed to support academics in the early stages of their careers. The majority of the Joanna Randall-MacIver JRF’s time will be devoted to research and publication in their chosen academic field. They will be expected to self-manage their holiday and to take holiday days outside term time. They may be offered a limited amount of teaching (up to 3 hours a week during term time), in the interest of their career development. Any such teaching will be remunerated separately. 

The stipend will start at Grade 7, point 1, which is £32,817 per annum and is pensionable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. 

The Fellow will be provided with use of a shared office in College. Fellows are entitled to free meals, are members of the Senior Common Room, and may apply for research expenses (currently up to £1,800 per annum). They will also be eligible to apply for small project and event grants through the College’s Research Committee.
