Operating across the whole of the UK with a combined budget of more than £7 billion, UK Research and Innovation is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, and a vision to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation. UKRI will build on the successful elements from the current funding system and maximise the contribution of each of the component parts to create the best environment for research and innovation to flourish.
About the role
Are you interested in applying systems thinking to build a resilient, sustainable and efficient Research and Development ecosystem across the UK? We are seeking a critical thinker who can apply systems thinking to development of policies and strategies to build a resilient, sustainable and efficient R&D ecosystem across the UK.
We want to support an effective and efficient R&D system that draws on a diverse range of voices and perspectives to make the most of existing strengths as well as addressing any weaknesses or gaps. You will help make this happen.
This is a high-profile role with regular exposure to the most senior decision makers in UKRI. You will provide thought leadership on many of the organisation’s most pressing challenges: structuring problems, developing policy options and engaging diverse groups of stakeholders.
It is essential that you have excellent problem-solving and complex decision-making skills, along with the ability to think strategically and spot links across disparate policy areas.
You will also be able to work on own initiative together with the capability and flexibility to work well within a team. Experience of using multiple forms of evidence and analysis to support your solutions, exploring synergies and drawing conclusions from across a portfolio of work is also essential.
What we offer
UK Research and Innovation recognises and values employees as individuals and aims to provide a pay and reward package that motivates staff to the best of their ability. The reward and benefit package includes a flexible working scheme, an excellent Defined Benefit pension scheme, 30 days annual leave allowance and a number of other benefits.
