Department of Drama
About the Role
The Department of Drama in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a full time (1.0 FTE) Lecturer in Performance and Global South Studies. We welcome applications from scholars and practice-based researchers with expertise in contexts and practices that engage with theatre and/or performance in or from the Global South (Africa, Asia, Middle East, Central and South America, and/or Oceania). This may include research specialisms in the following areas relevant to Indigenous, resident and/or diasporic communities of the Global South: performance economies; performance and identity; socially engaged performance and protest cultures; live art and experimental performance. The successful applicant will contribute to our thriving research culture as well as to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Drama, with specific reference to supporting the global reach of our research and the ongoing effort to decolonise our taught programmes.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Drama or a cognate subject in HSS and must have a growing or established international profile and substantial plans for future research and leadership. Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in large or small group settings is an essential requirement. Applicants who identify as Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic or Global Majority are strongly encouraged to apply.

In the last national research assessment exercise (REF 2014), QMUL Drama was the top-ranked Drama Department in the UK for the quality of our research.
