Combined University and College salary in the range £48,144 - £64,605 p.a. plus additional benefits as detailed below.
The History Faculty and St Edmund Hall are seeking to appoint someone with expertise in the history of Italy in the Renaissance and/or Early Modern period between c.1400 and c.1700. You may specialise in any part of this field, and focus on any theme, but we would particularly welcome applications from historians whose work is methodologically innovative, and/or places Italian history in a wider European, Mediterranean or global setting; we would also welcome applications from people with interests in social, cultural (including material culture), intellectual, environmental or religious history, as well as the history of gender and sexuality. The post combines academic research and postgraduate supervision in Italian History with a wider range of undergraduate and Master’s teaching across the history of early modern Europe and the world. We would especially like to encourage applications from women and people of colour, who are historically under-represented at Oxford.
The appointee will be a member of the Faculty of History, and a tutorial fellow of St Edmund Hall. The post is full-time, tenable from 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Combined University and College salary in the range £48,144 - £64,605 p.a. plus additional benefits as detailed below including a Housing Allowance of £9,000. Additional salary of £2,804 p.a. if awarded the title of Professor.
This post is an exciting and demanding one in which you will conduct advanced research; give lectures, classes and tutorials; supervise, support and examine students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and play a part in the administrative work of the History Faculty and St Edmund Hall, where, as a tutorial fellow, you will help to manage a lively group of undergraduate and postgraduate historians. The University of Oxford uses the grade of associate professor for most of its permanent academic appointments. Associate professors are eligible for consideration through regular recognition of distinction exercises for award of the title of full professor.
The postholder will be required to hold a doctorate and an internationally recognisable academic and research track record within the field of Early Modern Italian History between 1400 and 1700, appropriate to the career stage and individual circumstance.
Queries about the post should be addressed to the Chair of the History Faculty Board, Professor John Watts (email: firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone: +44 (0) 1865 615005) or the HR Manager at St Edmund Hall (email: email@example.com). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence; they will not form part of the selection decision.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon (UK time) on 21st May 2021. Interviews are expected to take place in June 2021, and may be held online.
