We are looking for a talented individual to join our School or Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) on a permanent full time basis.
BA (Hons) Film at Edinburgh Napier University is a practice based film programme listed as the top UK University for Film Production & Photography (1st of 67 - The Guardian Guide 2021) and we are currently looking to expand our team.
We are based at our Merchiston Campus, in the School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI), located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. The School hosts a range of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, and plays an active part in the creative industries in Scotland and beyond.
The role is predominantly concerned with the teaching of professional drama practices and while a single specific specialism is not stipulated, we are particularly interested in applicants with experience in drama producing or production design, as well as a more broad interest in applicants with cinematography or postproduction sound and picture experience.
If successful, you will contribute mainly to the delivery of our BA (Hons) Film programme, working alongside a specialist and highly dedicated team of practitioners within the practical film production curriculum. You will be expected to contribute to and lead on the development, design and delivery of a student centred learning experience that is underpinned by professional practice and academic scholarship, within your assigned areas of responsibility. You will also act as Personal Tutor for students.
While you will primarily be responsible for teaching at undergraduate level, you may also be asked to contribute to our MA programmes.
What we are looking for
We are looking to appoint an exceptional associate professor who can demonstrate a sufficient breadth and depth of experience in film practice to influence and lead the development of high quality teaching and learning. You will demonstrate a level of achievement that includes national and international standing, a research track record of high quality outputs, external income generation, and academic leadership.
You will demonstrate a commitment to sustained continuous professional and academic development and develop and maintain links with media industries in order to strengthen teaching programmes, research and associated activities. You will demonstrate experience of leadership in developing, designing and delivering teaching and student-centred learning, with a knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
We are looking for a colleague with strong influencing, leadership and people management skills as well as the enthusiasm required to contribute to and lead on the teaching of film production, in order to successfully develop the next generation of film makers.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who currently hold a PhD and those who are interested in becoming PHD qualified. We would also consider applications with significant professional practice experience and evidence of income generation.
