We are looking for an experienced and motivated Research Fellow to participate in a large translational research programme involving members of the UK Respiratory Gene Therapy Consortium assessing lentiviral gene transfer to the lungs.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity for an experienced scientist to contribute to a preclinical development programme aimed at assessing a lentiviral vector platform, uniquely engineered for gene transfer to the lungs, for a range of acquired and congenital lung diseases. The successful candidate will hold at least a BSc in molecular biology and have practical experience including existing expertise of in vivo studies, and relevant laboratory experience in line with the duties of the posts, as outlined in the Job Description.

In 2001, the UK Cystic Fibrosis Gene Therapy Consortium was formed to pool the expertise and resources of three major groups in the UK (Oxford and Edinburgh Universities and Imperial College), progressing from laboratory studies to the first demonstration that gene therapy can produce improvements in the lungs of CF patients in a Phase 2b clinical trial. This new project will bring together both the translational science and the teams’ expertise in evaluating new therapeutics in clinical trials for the treatment of other lung conditions. Our aim is to rapidly translate our Lentiviral gene delivery platform for a portfolio of diseases. The funds supporting this research project are provided by The Wellcome Trust.
