The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.

The position is funded by a collaborative project involving the Intelligent Systems Group in the UCL Department of Computer Science and the Knowledge, Information, and Data Science Group in the UCL Department of Information Studies.  The post-holder will contribute to the development of the general theory of repurposing, take responsibility for compiling and empirically evaluating corpora and datasets associated with the case studies, develop techniques that combine machine learning and machine reasoning for incorporation in AI tools to undertake or support repurposing, and evaluate AI tools with respect to the corpora/datasets.

The post-holder will need to be a well-qualified graduate in computer science or mathematics (or related discipline), with a PhD in machine learning (e.g. supervised and semi-supervised learning) and/or machine reasoning (e.g. common-sense reasoning, defeasible reasoning, ontological reasoning, or computational argumentation). S/he will need to demonstrate his/her skills and enthusiasm for extensive collaboration on the theoretical, implementation, and application, aspects of this project. S/he will require excellent communication and scientific writing skills, and a track record in publications in high quality conferences and/or journals.

The duration of the role is until the 31st December 2024 in the first instance.
