We are seeking to recruit an individual with a strong research portfolio in medical imaging. The individual’s research activities will preferably be in the field of MRI, focussed on low-field technology, methods and applications. This post is a replacement for Professor David Lurie who is retiring from the University and is evidence of continued investment in this area.

The successful candidate will be based within the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) (, specifically in the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre (ABIC) (, which brings together clinical and basic science researchers investigating imaging technology, image analysis and applications.

The main purpose of this role is to provide a leadership role within the University’s medical imaging research portfolio, part of which comprises the FFC development and MRI imaging groups, to bring skills in low field MRI and to give academic leadership to an area in which the University has a long track record of success and is the subject of investment for the School.

Candidates must have a proven ability to attract regular funding and publish papers in high quality journals. An international profile, proven leadership, grant success, publication output and collaborations commensurate with a senior role are needed for a Chair or Reader appointment. Candidates must have a PhD in medical imaging or medical physics with a first degree in physics, computing science or maths, and experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level including research student supervision is also required. 

For an appointment made as Senior Lecturer or Reader level salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 8 scale (£53,348 - £60,022 per annum) depending on experience and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.  For an appointment made at Professorial level a competitive salary will be available.
