An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Researcher to join the NIHR funded Common Health Assets project, based in the Department of Social Sciences and Social Work at Bournemouth University. We are looking to appoint a Researcher with excellent interpersonal skills and experience of recruiting research participants and generating data. Ideally you will have experience of qualitative data analysis, working with community groups, realist or mixed methods research, though training and support will be provided.

The project is a collaboration between researchers at Bournemouth University, GCU, Glasgow Centre for Population Health, Queens University Belfast and University of East London and community-led organisations in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  

The Common Health Assets project is a mixed methods, realist evaluation and economic appraisal of how community led organisations impact on the health and wellbeing of people living in deprived areas.  The team includes experts on assets based approaches, health economics, social enterprise and realist approaches to research. Methodologically the project is an exciting combination of qualitative methods, policy analysis, photovoice, Q methodology and economic evaluation.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant research field and will work with community partners to recruit participants, generate data, analyse and write up findings whilst keeping records in accordance with research ethics best practice. We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise initiative and show a high degree of responsibility as well as someone to work under pressure and at times to tight deadlines. The success of the project depends on the researchers’ abilities to maintain good working relationships with partners and participants, to be able to work thoughtfully on methodology, analysis and writing but also to be able to work with energy and commitment in the recruitment of study participants and data collection. 

Internal applicants may be considered for a secondment but this would need to be discussed with their line managers prior to application.

You will be able to demonstrate previous experience of conducting primary research as part of a team, and working with research partners to recruit participants.  Ideally you will have qualitative and quantitative skills and experience of realist, mixed methods research and evidence or writing for publication in peer reviewed academic journals as well as writing for public.
