Job description

About us

The Business Support & Change Team manages and delivers transformational change associated with the education offer at King’s, and in the services and processes that support our students. To contribute to the delivery of the Education Strategy, the team provides programme and project support across a variety of activities and works closely with colleagues in a range of central services and faculties to ensure developments are fit for purpose and student-centred. We aim to deliver excellent student and staff experience whilst supporting the university’s growth in a financially sustainable way and do so by simplifying the way we do things, enabling ourselves to work together better and investing in our people and systems.

About the role

The Associate Director: Education Transformation will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the Curriculum 2029 programme and other Education Strategy-related projects, as part of the Education and Students Transformation (EAST) portfolio, to deliver on the aims of Vision 2029 and the Education Strategy.

You will be responsible for setting strategies and overseeing the planning and delivery of large and complex programmes and projects to deliver change, defining and working within set budgets, timescales and quality. You will build relationships across a wide stakeholder community, engaging with colleagues across Professional Services and faculties and with external partners.

The portfolio includes a wide range of programmes and projects and you will be required to lead a team of specialist project staff and oversee all stages of project lifecycles, as well as leading broader strategic developments, benefits realisation and change management approaches. The team also contributes to the transformation agenda across the university, encouraging best practice and common standards.

You will also form part of the wider leadership team of Associate Directors across the Education & Students (E&S) function. Associate Directors have strategic and operational responsibility for a defined portfolio of education and student professional services, as:

  • a service or sub-function lead within the Students and Education Directorate;
  • the professional services education and students lead within an academic faculty; or
  • the lead of defined function-wide transformation initiatives.

The Associate Directors work within and across teams and functions, engaging with a wide-range of colleagues across King’s to drive a positive and transformative impact on the student experience. This includes ensuring:

  • that services are delivered efficiently and consistently across King’s;
  • the mutual role of service users and those delivering services are understood so that the services deliver value and impact;
  • the key measures of service effectiveness reflect the reality on the ground;
  • the mutual dependencies of services across and within functions are managed to embed a culture of service, transparency and continuous improvement across King’s.

Associate Directors will have an excellent understanding of the priorities, cultures, and pressures of a research-led university, and of academic processes and the structure of the academic year.

This post is a maternity cover until 1 December 2022.

This post is offered as a full-time post but we are happy to talk about part-time, job-share and other flexible working options.
