Applications are invited for the post of Deputy Director within the UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory, (NVRL). The NVRL plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The laboratory offers approximately 120 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves performing in excess of 850,000 tests per annum. 

The NVRL is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 15189:2012 3rd Edition “Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence“.

The Deputy Director will contribute to the clinical direction, leadership, and strategic development of the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL). In addition, in the Director’s absence, the Deputy will oversee the laboratory Quality Management System and act as Clinical Lead for the NVRL. The Deputy Director, in accordance with her/his experience and expertise will also be expected to act as NVRL Consultant lead in one or more of the following areas: Teaching of Medical Microbiology & Virology; Food Virology; Transplant Medicine; Diagnostics of Imported Viral diseases; Sexual Health.
