The Directorate of External Relations enhances the reputation of the University through engagement with a wide range of stakeholders to support income generation. It includes student recruitment and admissions, marketing, corporate communications, internal communications, alumni and development, web services, creative services and events and public engagement.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Web Content Designer within our Web Services team.

The Web Services team have set ambitious goals to develop a sector leading website. As part of the project you will work closely with a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team to migrate content into our new publishing platform and work with stakeholders from across the University to ensure it is presented in the best possible way to users.

You will be:

  • skilled in writing accurate, consistent and high-quality content, with strong editing skills
  • able to manage a busy workload and meet set deadlines is also necessary
  • happy to work with people at all levels, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with schools and professional services across the University.

Although this is a content role and not a technical web development role, you should have a broad understanding of web technology, content management systems and previous experience of editing websites.

Your priorities will include:

  • Using content design methods to create website content that meets the needs of users.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to understand their objectives and gather content requirements.
  • Engaging with subject matter experts to create content.
  • Creating content plans to define project deliverables and timescales.
  • Using data, research, and evidence to review and evaluate content to make improvements.
  • Help plan and define website information architecture based on evidence, research, and best practice.
  • Take a leading role in defining, implementing, and championing University content standards and the content style guide.
  • Help define and create content governance policies and guidance.
  • Undertake periodic website audits and use analytics data to provide guidance and feedback to clients on content performance.
  • Support content publishing within the University content management system (CMS).
  • Lead on the delivery of content training for CMS users and the creation of associated training materials.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experience of writing, editing, and publishing website content.
  • Experience of using content management systems and content production processes.
  • Experience of creating content based on user needs and making complex language and processes easy to understand.
  • Experience of using website analytics.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken.
  • Experience and managing and improving stakeholder relationships.
  • A basic knowledge of HTML.
