The Fluid Dynamics/Scientific Computing group in Mathematics is internationally leading in its research and scholarship and is one of the largest groupings of its kind in a Mathematics Department. We are looking for an international leader in the field to fill an opening at the Reader/ Chair (Professor) Level in Fluid Dynamics and Scientific Computing. All areas are of interest, the main criterion being excellence. The group’s research covers fluid dynamics across scales and applications, and there is expertise in modelling, analysis and computation, with applications to low and high Reynolds numbers, aerodynamics, biofluid dynamics, electro- and magneto-hydrodynamics, geophysics and oceanography, and materials processing to mention a few.
The group boasts three Fellows of the American Physical Society (Division of Fluid Dynamics) and its members are editors and/or associate editors in numerous prestigious journals including the IMA Journal of Applied Mathematics, Physical Review Fluids, Proceedings of the Royal Society A, among others. The group has strong connections and substantial research collaborations with the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial. In addition, Mathematics is an integral part of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Fluid Dynamics Across Scales that has brought together over 60 fluid dynamicists at Imperial involving mathematics and six engineering departments. The Fluid Dynamics group has strong links with industry including Airbus, Bombardier, and the Met Office, and is always looking to establish and nurture further links to address some of the biggest and most pressing societal challenges such as energy sustainability and climate change.
