The role provides an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious research-led Department of Education & Childhood Studies. The Department is part of the newly-formed School of Social Sciences; the School is one of four within the newly-formed Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. 

The Department of Education & Childhood Studies at Swansea University is seeking applications from ambitious and talented individuals to further develop and enhance the Department's distinguished research and teaching portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and highly-regarded Department, located on a beautiful beachfront campus in the city of Swansea. As part of its strategic commitment to help develop and improve the educational system in Wales, underpinned by internationally-excellent research and enquiry, the Department has already launched an innovative suite of research-led programmes in Education at undergraduate and postgraduate (both PGT and PGR) levels.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is now making a series of strategic appointments to further enhance the Department’s work across research/policy/practice and our learning & teaching. We are seeking applicants with strong research track potential, as well as experience of innovative learning, teaching and assessment methods, who care about the student experience, and who can contribute to the development of modern curricula for diverse student groups.

For these2 xLecturer in Education (Enhanced Research Pathway) posts, we welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates with proven research and learning & teaching expertise at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. While these are open posts, we would particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following area:

  • Quantitative research methods;
  • Curriculum and pedagogy;
  • Additional learning needs (ALN)/special educational needs (SEN);
  • Health and wellbeing;
  • Child development;
  • Educational leadership and management.

Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications

  1. Applicants should have the appropriate background in Education. Typically, a PhD in a relevant subject area or a postgraduate degree and relevant professional experience or qualification
  2. Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent or a commitment to achieve this.

Typically evidenced by:

  1. PhD in Education (or cognate area), substantial professional practice experience, membership of professional body, etc.
  2. If you do not have a recognised teaching qualification then evidence is required of a commitment to work towards Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or equivalent.
