Managing waste, encouraging sustainability
As Waste & Recycling Assistant Manager, you’ll play an important role in caring for our 290-hectare campus, making it a great place to learn, live, work and visit. You’ll ensure that an efficient and compliant service is provided for the collection, removal and recycling of university waste. Your focus will be on managing the day-to-day activities of the Waste & Recycling team and ensuring we comply with all legal, regulatory and administrative procedures. This includes the disposal of 3,000 tonnes of waste a year, as well as road sweeping, litter picking and graffiti removal. You will also assist in the preparation of tenders for waste and recycling contracts, and contribute to developing a five-year waste & recycling strategy for the university.
You’re likely to have experience of dealing with general waste management, including recycling initiatives, in a large public or private sector organisation. A NEBOSH qualification is essential, as is good knowledge of waste legislation and relevant health and safety regulations. An effective communicator, able to prioritise tasks and workloads, you’ll be capable of supervising a small team. You’ll have some experience of working with budgets and carrying out financial planning.
