Summary:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Sheffield seeks to appoint two lecturers to join our team of internationally recognised researchers. The successful applicants will be expected to

  1. conduct research in accordance with the Department's strategy of delivering internationally excellent research that is open, rigorous, cutting-edge and collaborative,
  2. undertake high-quality teaching and supervision of students on our BPS-accredited undergraduate, post-graduate MSc and PhD programmes, and
  3. make a collegial contribution to the academic life of the department by taking part in academic governance and student support.

Two posts are available. One post has been ring-fenced for someone to join our Social and Behaviour Change research cluster, the other is an open position which we are looking to fill with someone who has the potential to carry out world-leading research in an area of Psychology that is aligned to one of our other existing strengths. These include cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience, data science, developmental psychology, health psychology, mental health and wellbeing, and systems neuroscience.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have a proven track record of producing high quality publications and successful grant-capture, and who are looking to develop and lead their own research program within a supportive and stimulating environment. There are extensive opportunities to collaborate with academics in other departments, for instance via the university’s Flagship Research Institutes, within which our department is already very active.

The Department of Psychology at The University of Sheffield is among the largest in the UK and has a vibrant research and study environment. We are recognised as being one of the best places in the world to study psychology (Times Higher Education World Subject Rankings 2021). At undergraduate level, we offer a Single Honours BSc in Psychology. At postgraduate level, we offer a range of MSc courses, applied clinical training courses, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and research degrees (PhD). Our NSS ratings have improved substantially over the past three years, maintaining this improvement is a key aim of the team.
