Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
We are seeking an exceptional candidate to enhance the excellence in teaching and research in data analytics within the School of Business. The successful candidate would be a member of the Economics subject group and would be expected to contribute to the success of our new MSc programme in Business Analytics as well as take an active role in the delivery of our existing taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes – which include MA/BSc degrees in Economics, Financial Economics and Business Economics, and a successful MSc in International Business. The appointee would also be expected to engage in the activities of the collaborative Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics. In addition to teaching and administrative duties, the successful candidate will undertake excellent research with demonstrable impact. Pursuit of external grant funding and regularly publishing research papers in top ranked journals are essential along with a strategy for knowledge exchange.

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:

  • PhD in a relevant subject.
  • Clear evidence of excellence in university learning and teaching.
  • Experience of setting, marking, assessing work and examinations and providing feedback to students.
  • Experience of supervision of undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate student projects.
  • Development of research objectives, project and proposals.
  • Experience of conducting individual or collaborative research projects.
  • Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds.
  • Development of ideas for generating income and promoting the subject.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others.
  • Evidence of effective team membership.
  • Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands.
  • Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities.

Desirable:

  • Experience of curriculum development and review.
  • Experience of module/programme design and leadership.
  • Experience of successful supervision of PhD research students.
  • Experience of successful international recruitment.
  • Experience of Public Engagement.
