Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 24th November 2021

Project Supervisors:

Project Description:

Glaucoma is often associated with ‘tunnel vision’, depicted as a dark ring around the peripheral vision.1-3 Studies have challenged this depiction, with patients reporting that this is not an accurate representation of their experience.4-6 Despite this, glaucoma is still commonly associated with tunnel vision, and images portraying this persist in glaucoma information materials.1-3 This study aims to better understand how glaucoma affects vision, whether symptoms influence treatment adherence, and looks at the importance of accurate graphical representation of glaucoma symptoms.

Initially, this project will investigate patients’ visual symptoms and their influence on treatment adherence and appointment attendance. It will then examine the influence of graphical information materials on adherence attitudes and attitudes to eyecare in general.

The project will provide a chance to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with supervisors who have a track record of glaucoma research and patient adherence research, and are both clinically and academically experienced. There is also an opportunity to collaborate with clinicians and academics based outside of the University of Bradford.
